Annika Sorenstam is one of the best professional female golfers that can rival the record of Tiger Woods. She has scored a good number of tournament wins for the past two seasons. In fact, in 2002 alone, she won 11 out of her 25 starts, making it the best season of LPGA in 40 years.
Annikia Sorenstam's beginnings
Her fierce desire to win led her to becoming one of the most popular and most successful female golfers in the world. She has built a professional record that rivals Mickey Wright's outstanding career digits. She first took interest in tennis until she learned golf at 12. Right from the start, she had the potential to be a winner but was rather shy. In college, Annika attended University of Arizona. Her titles included the 1991 NCAA Championship and the 1992 World Amateur Championship. From there, she turned pro as a female golfer. Her earlier accomplishments include being named as Rookie of the Year for the Ladies European Tour and Rookie of the Year for the LPGA in 1994.
Annika's golf record
Annika Sorenstam has an outstanding record. In 2005, for instance, she won in five straight events and tied with Nancy Lopez for the LPGA winning streak. Aside Mickey Wright, Annika is the only pro female golfer to achieve 10 or more tournament wins in two or more seasons. She also won a good number of Player of the Year awards, enough to break the record in LPGA Tour. What's more, she also made a record in 2001 LPGA Standard Register Ping by shooting the lowest round with a 59. To sum it up, Annika Sorenstam had 72 wins in the LPGA Tour, 17 wins in the Ladies European Tour, and 4 wins in other events and tournaments.
On May 13, 2008, Annike Sorenstam held a press conference to announce her retirement.
