Manny Pacquiao, rated as one of the world's best pound-per-pound boxer, is set to face Joshua Clottey, a welterweight boxer from Ghana, on March 13. The much-awaited fight between the current WBO world welterweight champion and Ghanaian challenger will be held in Cowboys Stadium in Dallas. A few months away from the match, many are speculating who will be the last man standing in the ring. Let's take a closer look at these two fighters:
Manny Pacquiao's boxing style
Manny Pacquiao, also known as Pacman, has fought his way through WBC and IBF championships in different weight divisions. Currently, he holds the title as the WBO world welterweight champion. Among his memorable fights include the knock-out of Ricky Hatton, the technical knock-out on the 12th round of Miguel Cotto, and the defeat of Oscar dela Hoya before the 9th round through technical knock-out. Pacman has faced bigger fighters before, so analysts say that the any difference in size won't be the deciding factor in the match between Pacman and Clottey. In fact, even Miguel Cotto says that the lightning speed and power punch of Pacquiao is his edge over the bigger Ghanaian fighter. He claims that Pacquiao can hit harder although Clottey is bigger and stronger.
Joshua Clottey's boxing record
Known as the "The Hitter" and "The Grand Master," Joshua Clottey, former IBF Welterweight Champion, is set to face one of the best pound-per-pound fighters in the world. This welterweight boxer from Ghana has not yet lost through a knock-out. He only had three losses: in a controversial match against Carlos Baldomir where he was disqualified because of supposed intentional head butts, in a fight against Antonio Margarito where he lost through unanimous decision, and the split decision loss to Miguel Cotto. Clottey managed to win his first 20 matches, with 14 knock-outs. After getting disqualified in a match against Baldomir, Clottey then went on to win the African Boxing Union welterweight title. His boxing record also boasts of a 10-fight winning streak.
While Clottey has the strength, Manny has the speed. And while Manny can hit with power punches, Clottey is known for his good defense. The March 13 fight is sure to set the ring on fire with fierce welterweight fighters on stage.
