Brazil just wiped the smirk off Uncle Sam's face! At least now, some Americans can stop feeling smug about the Pre-World Championship, as they realize that Brazil and other members of the globe are closing in for a win. This should be a bleeping wake up call and should shake the national roster off their bench. Add to that fact that Carmelo Anthony can't play with his knee injury. Team USA's competing against the best and any minute, they can suddenly be out.
I hate to admit it but for an all-star, million-dollar team, one man like Carmelo Anthony can make a big difference-- but is that enough to make the opponent crumble? Even with a 90-86 triumphant mark against Brazil, I've never seen Team USA almost crawling for the glory. I bet Brazil did feel good about it, having a 16-0 headstart after Anthony slumped his ass on the bench. The lead's now down to four, a sinking low compared to the double-digit smash against Puerto Rico and China. Team USA was even lucky to have 4 Brazilian players exit the game early, with the fouls.
When it comes to basketball, we're all cheesy fanatics. We even cheer for our basketball stars like they're going on war, yet, we can no longer tolerate another Vietnam. This is an exaggeration, but it will break our hearts to see them coming home empty-handed. We are a nation of winners and we don't easily tolerate defeat. For crying out loud, we invented basketball! No one should crush our pride and spirit! I couldn't care less about NBA; all I want to see is our flag waving high up in the air.

If you believe in Santa Claus, then you'll probably have the same faith in a feigned drama called wrestling. But guys, please get real! How can you be duped with all the brawn and strength alone? All they show you are nothing more than stunts. It's quite obvious that there are twisted storylines and premeditated outcomes behind it. Professional wrestling has their magic right before are very eyes, yet we still choose to slip into sheer naivete and mindless entertainment. That's how hungry we can be when it comes to sensational sports for rage and violence!
Saturday, May 12. 2007
All in the spirit of good show and commercialized adventure, professional wrestlers portray a sometimes snappy character just to win the crowd. They assume the personality of either a hero or a villain for us to have someone to love or hate. I was once a wrestling fan and it gave me incredible thrill to see Hulk Hogan rip his shirt off. But to see The Rock whining like a sissy might be an unlikely sight for someone so muscular and strong. People love him, but I think he's already overdecorated that you'll even sense the sham on the ring.
Friday, May 11. 2007
We see them on TV, we play them on video. But is there real action in wrestling? Of course, there is. Wrestlers fly like gymnasts and spin like ballerinas. Every stunt is carefully concocted to manipulate the whole match. Wrestlers get hurt and break a few bones, yet it's all part of their training. Even the dumb old referee plays a role in the scene. If you see players slamming a chair or a chain, don't worry; they're just movie props and it's all just lies before our eyes! Well, all these you all probably know, but what the hell...

I never really cared about Kobe Bryant's ass talking. So long as he plays his game well, I don't even want to waste any minute and stir up a storm. But when you're already playing for Team USA, that's the time when you should leave the attitude back in court and build up on team spirit. Come on! At least give America a good show. Basketball is an obssession to many people. If not for them, who will sign those jack-ass players with million-dollar deals? So Kobe, stop the conceitedness for a while, will you?
Wednesday, May 9. 2007
On his first appearance and interview for Team USA camp, Kobe Bryant didn't even bother to sound like a member of the national roster. Of course, he was ayt for the photo op and sports write-up but his remarks emphasized on "they" instead of "we"! Even if he just got back from a knee surgery, I don't think it's any reason to feel disconnected. Kobe said that the team's been playing extremely well after winning and scoring a lead of 23 points against Puerto Rico. Yet, how come he never approached the team while he stayed with the big bosses, like team director Jerry Colangelo and agent Rob Pelinka? You'll really feel the rift even from the fifth row!
Tuesday, May 8. 2007
Yes, Kobe will be joining the team soon in Japan for the World Championship. But he's not playing; he'll be doing a promo tour for Nike. Now, that's mega crap! He may have hurt a knee but he injured many sport fans and some team members. He backed out three days before the camp opening, which totally blew the minds of Colangelo and coach Mike Krzyzewski. He had to undergo a minor knee surgery. So he was hurt. But to feel smug about it and call the surgery a tweak? I'm not having more of Kobe's attitude. Besides, Team USA is playing well without him.

You know what they say when it's summer in NBA? It's time for the big switch! You'll find the biggest names on trade, hot and yielding on every shopping list. In the past there have been successful career-breaking picks while there are also lapses in choices. If you can still remember Scottie Pippen-- well, he disappeared after MJ. And that's how NBA is eating the players' league raw and fresh. But the most incessant rumor this season is the pitching for sale of Philadelphia Sixers' highest-point player. They say that Allen Iverson will no longer play for his team, a take-off after his 10 loyal years. But Iverson is a warrior, it's his way or no way.
Sunday, May 6. 2007
Allen continued to play his game, marking one of the highest points in the league but his brilliance didn't make any difference, short of making it to the last season playoffs. There are growing speculations that this will cost Allen Iverson his exit from Philadelphia but despite rumor attacks, he's proud to claim that from day 1, he wanted to be with Philadelphia. I'm not sure if this plea from a hard court bad boy will change the deal. But they say that his failure to mesh with Chris Webber is the real shame. It was a strong season for Iverson and they're playing it cool on the hoops. However, the duo lacks the strong defense to stop people from coming into the play. Now, I'm not sure where it's leading. I'll surely miss Iverson if he leaves his team.
Saturday, May 5. 2007
Just so we will know what Philadelphia will be missing, here's a quick recap of his NBA league profile. Allen Iverson plays the court position of a pointguard. After studying at Georgetown, he was picked by Philadelphia 76ers on the first round back in 1996. He's already 31 years old, born on June 7, 1975. This 6-foot point guard has scored a lot of championship matches and record-breaking stints. His impressive NBA ranks are: 2nd in NBA in Points Per Game (33.0), 7th in NBA in Steals Per Game (1.94), 3rd in NBA in Technical Fouls (13), 8th in NBA in Assists Per Game (7.4), and 1st in NBA in Minutes Per Game (43.1). I don't know how Philadelphia can produce or replace a player with that stats.

Even tennis champs have their own share of foolishness and catastrophic tennis court blunders. And when you're playing against Maria Sharapova and Andre Agassi, tension will surely creep in. The moment it does, your confidence may collapse with every swing. So how do you assert power and domination? Don't be intimidated by their play and deal with your own strategy. Focus on your strengths and hit them off guard. You won't be a champ, but you're on your way to becoming a tennis warrior yourself.
Thursday, May 3. 2007
You won't score points just by hitting it strong and fast. In tennis, you'll have to be on a better position at the right time. You may have the power of Pete Sampras and the charm of Rafael Nadal, but if you're not comfortable with every shot, sorry chum but you'll be digging up dirt in no time. Know yourself better than your enemy. Search for that comfort zone and use it to your advantage. All you need is a moment to shine with the right ball and the right move!
Wednesday, May 2. 2007
Patience is a tennis virtue my friend! Take for instance, Andre Agassi's strategy. He will keep the play and the points coming until he gets the opportunity to hit a forehand from the middle of the court. That shot makes a blowing impact and a total damage to his opponent's play. From a commanding position like Agassi's, you can be consistent with your shots and boost up your percentage.

Once upon a time, a weird looking ball sprang out from a huge field. It doesn't bounce and it's certainly not round, but men are willing to kill just to get the ball and run a yardful of goal. Now that's what we call American Football. A full-contact sport to beat other men down and protect the sacred ball until you make it to the bitter end of the fields. The whole yard is yours to attack, defend, catch, and pitch a football on the play. Men are mighty, huge, and ferocious but the real star is a good quarterback. What is brawn without brains anyway? And if you're on the play-offs, a quarterback is the real ace in defeating a poker play from the other team. For the NFL playoffs, my top two veteran choices are Brian Greese of Chicago and Matt Schaub of Atlanta.
Monday, April 30. 2007
Why will I pick Brian Griese for an NFL playoff? Because he picthes the ball just at the right spot. He's smart and he's got a streak of luck by his side. The Broncos made it to the playoffs when he played as starter for Denver and when Bucs came back for a postseason play, Griese was also the starter in Tampa. How's that for luck? Now, this is talent. Out of his six games last year, he won five leaving a good game record before he was injured. He's not just a thug, he's also 70% accurate in pitching and passing the ball. He's got an eye for speed and just the right man to handle a pass. Griese's 39-33 record can prove how competent he can be as a quarterback. A passing title and sixteen 300-yard performances, experienced and cunning that is Brian Griese.
Sunday, April 29. 2007
Matt Schaub? No need to prove it but he's got a knack for football. He was able to throw a 298- yards and 3 touchdowns in a game against New England. No interceptions, just Schaub and his knack for a kill. At a critical time of play, I'll bet everything on Schaub. All he needs is a little luck like Brian Griese and he'll dash off with a winning pitch of catch and play. Goals are attainable with Schaub on your team. He's record qualifies as one of the most reliable veterans on the field. He won't wear and tear so rookies don't you dare challenge Schaub with his game.

Who says women are better off cleaning the kitchen and tending to children? They're not just desperate housewives. In fact, they're getting half of the action and are soon dominating the hoops with WNBA. However, I'm still a fan of Michael Jordan. He may be hopping from one sport to another, not knowing for sure where to head off after the fame, but his record will always prove the best years of his life in NBA. You see, basketball is not just a petty game of chasing and stealing one ball for that hoop. It's a game of record-breaking challenges. Stars may be gone in no time, but we'll continue to hail them with their shadows eternally casted on basketball league history. And for WNBA, Lisa Leslie just marked another milestone in her sports career. A new record high to always remember her by.
Friday, April 27. 2007
Lucky for Lisa Leslie, she's bestowed with the talent and honor of being the first player to make a 5,000-point mark in WNBA history. She scored a smashing 41 points in a Los Angeles Sparks duel against San Antonio Silver Stars giving LA a 25-point lead from 105-80 scoreboard. Definitely for Leslie, this was not just another game. It was THE game where she'll forever be a part of the WNBA league. Even if she retires, quit, or lose all the championship matches, her WNBA record will never be scratched off from her career anthology. When you're playing pro, you go past winning a series of game, you etch your own mark, make your own name, and register your own goal into making it to the elite list of basketball legends.
Thursday, April 26. 2007
On the first season of WNBA in 1997, Lisa Leslie was determined to make her slam dunk while playing for the Los Angeles Sparks. Unfortunately, she missed and failed. But even with a broken dream, Sparks continued to play real good games to even make it the play-offs with Leslie leading the team. But not good enough, Houston Comets dominated the entire championship one-on-one in the 90's. In 2001, the Sparks ended the winning reign of Comets when they won their first WNBA title. Not only that, Leslie took the MVP crown as well. The first win led to another until Leslie reached a 5,000 career culminating points on June 23, 2006. She's a true basketball legend who's the only player to score a dunk with WNBA.

Ever wondered why most tennis players are physically fit and sexy? It's in the nature of their game, but also the size of their court. Imagine, if you're playing doubles and you're running from side to side in a 36 x 78 feet court, then you must be sweating like a pig and miraculously, shedding off those disgusting fatty layers. But for singles tennis champs like Maria Sharapova, her world all bounces in a 27 x 78 square feat. When Serena Williams strikes an ace toward her turf, Sharapova will either veer to her side or surge forward to scoop the ball out of the grounds. She's moving in fleeting seconds to cover all sides and slam the ball back at Williams' face. In a matter of seconds, a matter of length, all things change inside the tennis dome.

Have you seen the recent face-off between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer? Federer used his power serve to topple his number one Spanish rival. For Federer, the game was first unleashed in his own court. Sometimes, the beginning may predict a good or bad ending, so always work on your service courts. You can either choose to strike left or right while there's a center line that divides the two directions in half. Like Federer, manipulate your own dominance, maybe not in Wimbledon but in a 27 feet wide by 21 feet long service court.
Monday, April 23. 2007
The tennis player slams an ace shot. So powerful in a speed of a bullet, only it bounces back from the net. Remember, another hurdle between you and your despicable opponent is the net which measures 3 feet high in the middle and 3 feet 6 inches high at the ends. Always adjust your shots to push the ball into your rival's net. The net has a total of 42 feet length from pole to pole inclusive of the 3-foot outer line adjustments. Also an important dimension of tennis courts is to create a relative distance of 12- foot perimeter on each side and 21 feet from each baseline just so you can have the comfort and convenience of playing minus the nuisance and distraction of other playing area.

Roger Federer has never tasted victory this sweet after bringing his ferocious nemesis down. He's the champ and he's got Wimbledon after an intense match. What's Nadal has to say? The King of Clay is not invincible after all! The hunger is more than enough for the Swiss player to crush and devour on Spanish Nadal's confidence on grass. We've seen Nadal fall only to seek revenge and Federer to rise for a strike. If you're thinking that the duel ends here, nah-ah! Sampras-Agassi part II is in the making.
Saturday, April 21. 2007
It was an all-high record breaking career for Federer, his eighth grand slam and fourth defense title for Wimbledon. He proved to be a Swiss bombshell ready to explode with counter strikes and power serves while he nips Nadal's play right in the bud. A surprise for avid fans, he didn't move out of his comfort zone. He used the grass advantage to quash his opponent only to dig the grounds and chase for a play. Federer at last admits the apprehension that enveloped his title match against Nadal. But he surged forward with determination to tackle his fear down and emerge as a tennis conqueror on the grass.
Friday, April 20. 2007
It was a topsy-turvy play for Rafael Nadal. He can't see where the ball's coming when his opponent kept on changing angles. With low backhand drives and swings, Nadal can't simply toss the ball back to his opponent's court. But in the third set, he's able to make a come back for a tie-breaking score. Roger Federer, on the other hand, was tight with a mindset to wait for his spin. He didn't falter and waver on his spirits until he grabbed the win from the King of Clay. Federer may score a number 1 but Nadal is out to get him the next time!
